Everything Old is New Again

Posted by Judy Andrus Toporcer (Colton, United States) on 28 May 2008 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

None of this was posed. I attended a July 4th picnic at some friends' farm, and they have Amish hired help who live in the white house just behind their own home. The Amish couple and their children attended the picnic (allowed by the Elders as long as it was a picnic and not a party...), hence the parked buggy. Another party attendee arrived in his restored Brockway truck, parked it right there, and gave me the perfect photo opportunity.

Oh, and did I mention all the Cubanos from New York City (relatives of the farm owner's wife) and the illegal Mexicans? It was an absolutely wonderful day filled with games, a "show" of songs, poems, dances and poetry readings performed on a large hay wagon converted to a stage, Cuban food, a roasted farm-raised pig, and an hour of the greatest fireworks anywhere in a State than bans fireworks! Don't you wish you could have been there?

Welcome to my view of the world, sometimes seasoned with a strange sense of humor; sharpened by age. I hope you enjoy the things I see.
